Would i?As already stated, the server only knows what your client tells it. Without Forge installed, that's nothing about mods (FML will send a list of installed mods to the server to make sure you have the correct mods and versions so you can join the server). So from a technical standpoint, unless both you AND the server has Forge installed (the server needs FML installed, which FML is bundled with Forge, to catch and process the packet(s) containing the list), the server doesn't know a thing about what mods you have installed.From an ethical standpoint, it's still a no IMO. Shaders don't really benefit you except in making the game look better.

However Optifine could be considered cheating to some admins considering, at least prior to 1.8, it allowed you to up the render distance past what vanilla allows you. Even then though, it's still a no in my opinion.
