The Miracle Worker is a 1962 film centered around the struggles of teaching a handicap Hellen Keller how to communicate with the world. The film was written by William Gibson and directed by Arthur Penn. A blind, deaf, and mute Hellen Keller (Patty Duke) faces the possibility of being thrown into an institution should she fail to learn how to communicate. Her parents, fearful of these drastic consequences, enlist a strict and effective teacher named Anne Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) from the Perkins Institute for the Blind to help their daughter.
